Behavioral Analytics
Behavioral analytics is the study of how users interact with a product, website, or digital experience captured through quantitative data such as clicks, scrolls, session duration, navigation paths, and feature usage. It answers the question: What are users doing?
Behavioral data is collected through analytics tools, session recording software, heatmaps, and event tracking. Researchers and product teams analyze this data to identify patterns in user behavior, which features are used most, where users drop off, which paths lead to conversion, and which interactions signal confusion or frustration.
Behavioral analytics is distinct from attitudinal research (surveys, interviews) in that it captures what users actually do rather than what they say they do. These two approaches are complementary: behavioral data reveals the what, while qualitative research reveals the why.
Key applications include optimizing conversion funnels, identifying underused features, diagnosing UX problems before they affect retention, and personalizing product experiences based on usage patterns.
